Response to "Richard Cory"

The very first time I had heard the poem "Richard Cory" I was very confused and surprised. I was confused because a man who had everything and was looked up to, had killed himself which lefted me surprised at the end. After reading and having to memorize it, I realized that it was more than a rich man who killed himself. The poem is about a man who others see him as someone who has it all, yet not knowing how he really didn't. The people had believed he had everything yet didn't realize/notice that he was a lonely man who possibly had depression. Richard Cory was a rich man who had everything but love.
