Response to "Richard Cory"

The very first time I had heard the poem "Richard Cory" I was very confused and surprised. I was confused because a man who had everything and was looked up to, had killed himself which lefted me surprised at the end. After reading and having to memorize it, I realized that it was more than a rich man who killed himself. The poem is about a man who others see him as someone who has it all, yet not knowing how he really didn't. The people had believed he had everything yet didn't realize/notice that he was a lonely man who possibly had depression. Richard Cory was a rich man who had everything but love.

Ancient Stories

Question #1: How is the language in this text similar to and/or different from the language you use in everyday conversation?

Answer: In the story "Earth on Turtle's Back" it uses a short way to tell a quick story. In everyday conversations we do the same when speaking about something. We tend to shorten it up to tell it quickly but yet getting to the point of all of it.

Question #2: How important is it for a story to be repeated word for word?  Is meaning embellished, distorted, lost, or enhanced in the retelling?

Answer: It's very important for a story to be repeated word by word because it makes the story more real. If many people told a story differently it wouldn't make it as interresting. Instead it would leave people confused. It definitely brings the story more alive if it's retold and remembered the same way.

This week's notes! 😜

"Earth on a Turtle's Back" response

"Earth on a Turtle's Back" is a short fiction story about how life on Earth was created. It allows us readers to understand the importance of helping eachother out just as the animals did when they worked together. It also shows you how with enough determination and not giving up even the smallest can achieve anything, just like the muskrat in the story.
